 The Revenstar RC-1 is
the simplest and most cost effective turn key solution for transporting
audio streams from one place to another over IP/ethernet links. This
small device consumes less than 50 watts and employs only two small,
low velocity fans for near-silent operation allowing it to be placed
anywhere, even in the
studio. Both a desktop and 1U rackmount chassis are available.
Applications
Because the settings are all software based, the
RC-1 can be pre-configured to suit a variety of needs, such as an all
digital studio-to-transmitter link over fiber, leased lines, or an 802.11 microwave point-to-point connection,
relocation of program sources such as in-store music
over the public internet or a corporate intranet, or multicast
distribution to multiple endpoints. The configuration can be changed at
any time by editing a configuration file stored on an ordinary USB
flash drive.
Reliability and Security
The RC-1 boots from a solid state drive for
enhanced reliability. It requires no maintenance, DHCP server, or
connection to the public internet for plug and play operation. An RC-1
client placed on the same layer 2 network as an RC-1 sever will
automatically associate to the server and begin streaming. As
configured, the client and server only listen to designated IP
addresses and ports, for added security all other addresses and ports
are firewalled. Troublesome software upgrades are not required,
although the software can be upgraded to take advantage of new and
better encoding and streaming protocols. End-to-end encryption is
available by running the connection from server to client through an
encrypted tunnel, a feature available on nearly all routers.
